I’m really not a big fan of winter. I think I handled my first winter in 12 years with grace and humor (and lots of warm layers!), and one of the highlights was definitely the LUMA Southern Lights Project Light Festival. I had never seen anything like this before – all kinds of really interesting light installations in the Queenstown Gardens, glowing in changing colors and reflecting the natural shapes and textures of the surrounds. Unreal!
It was startlingly cold and unbelievably packed with people, which made maneuvering in the dark pretty tough. And I was stunned by the number of kids out late! They were in good spirits, though, considering the chilly temps and scary darkness. The sculptures and light formations were something to behold, for real – I wish more places held events like this.
